  • Do now: Avoid smoke/dust, keep ears dry, no cotton buds inside ear canal, manage allergies, check vaccines.
  • Watch for: Ear pain/fullness, drainage, hearing loss, persistent sore throat, nosebleeds, snoring/apnoea.
  • Get help if: Sudden hearing loss, severe sore throat with drooling, breathing difficulty, facial swelling, or a swallowed/aspirated object.

Seek urgent care immediately if any of the following occur:

  • Sudden hearing loss in one/both ears
  • Severe sore throat with drooling, muffled “hot-potato” voice, or trouble breathing
  • Object swallowed or suspected in airway; choking episodes
  • Rapid facial/neck swelling, high fever with neck stiffness, or spreading ear/face infection

  • Regular (yearly) routine general medical screening
  • Report illness early to authorized medical facilities
  • Avoid substantial radiation as much as possible
  • Avoid smoking and smoking environment
  • Avoid chemicals/toxins either by inhalation or through the mouth or skin as much as possible
  • Avoid unnecessary exposure to loud sound/noise
  • At least 30 minutes of exercise (like walking) per day
  • Deliberate efforts at eating locally available nutritious and healthy foods
  • Drink water liberally daily (at least 3 litres for adults and for children, see Children Preventive Path)
  • Discuss your traditional beliefs and practices regarding your health with your doctor in order to avoid harmful practices
  • Comply with recommended immunization programs in authorized medical facilities in your locality
