General preventive measures against diseases of women

  • Do now: Stay smoke-free, limit alcohol, maintain a healthy weight, move daily, and keep routine checkups (including cervical and breast screening as advised).
  • Watch for: Abnormal vaginal bleeding or discharge, pelvic pain, breast lumps/skin changes, painful urination, or pain with sex.
  • Get help if: Heavy bleeding with dizziness, severe lower-abdominal pain, early pregnancy with pain/bleeding, fever with pelvic pain, or suspected intimate-partner violence.

  • Severe lower-abdominal/pelvic pain, especially with fever or vomiting
  • Heavy vaginal bleeding or passing large clots
  • Early pregnancy with pain/bleeding or fainting

  • At least 30 minutes of exercise (like walking) per day
  • Maintain healthy weight
  • Avoid substantial radiation as much as possible
  • Avoid smoking, smoking environment and alcohol
  • Avoid chemicals/toxins either by inhalation or through the mouth or skin as much as possible
  • Avoid vaginal douching/deodorants and the use of scented pads and tampons
  • Prioritize female education
  • Deliberate efforts at eating locally available nutritious and healthy foods
  • Drink water liberally daily (at least 3 litres for women and for children, see Children Preventive Path)
  • Always register for antenatal care at authorized medical facilities when pregnant
  • Ensure adequate (at least six hours) refreshing sleep daily
  • Avoid physical and emotional stress
  • Practice safe sex all the time
  • Encourage and support breastfeeding
